The
park was proclaimed as Namibia's first conservation area in 1907.
With a surface of 22 270 square km it still is the largest game
reserve in Africa. It's definitive feature is the
Etosha Pan,
a vast,
shallow depression of approximately 5000 square km, and also named... "
The
great white place of dry water"! During dry seasons, animals (114
mammal species) and birds (340 species) are dependant on about 30 waterholes,
which again provide excellent game viewing and photographic oppertunities.
